Our Programs
TRANSITION TO ADULTHOOD
The Transition to Adulthood Program aims to help adolescents transition to college and secure meaningful employment, leading to fulfilled, contributing adults. It began as a retreat offering workshops on college applications, scholarships, internships, resume writing, interviewing, financial literacy, social media, and professional behavior. For those not pursuing college, the program explores trade schools and certifications. It has since expanded to include college tours, professional site visits, and a career fair. Future goals include adding financial literacy and coding classes and developing summer internships. The program is free for all admitted applicants.
SUPERHERO MENTORING
The Super HEROes Mentoring Program is a community-based initiative in metro-Atlanta that provides one-on-one mentoring for children aged 6-16 affected by HIV/AIDS. Volunteers, known as "Super HEROes," commit to mentoring for at least two years, meeting twice a month to support the children's self-esteem, confidence, and social skills. Mentors undergo a thorough application, screening, and training process before being matched with a child, or "Little HERO," based on shared interests. The program aims to give these children the same joyful experiences as their peers while offering a meaningful volunteer opportunity for adults.
HOLIDAY OF HEROS
The Holiday of HEROs (H.O.H.) program partners with AIDS organizations and hospitals across Georgia to provide children affected by HIV/AIDS with one essential item and one gift during the holiday season. In 2023, the program served 398 children, thanks to support from businesses, churches, and community members. Individuals and organizations can help by sponsoring a child, donating toys, clothing, or gift cards, making monetary donations, or volunteering services like catering, decorating, and photography for the annual holiday party. Volunteers are also needed for tasks such as wrapping gifts and helping at the event. Donors receive child information in November, and all personal details are kept confidential.
CAMP HIGH FIVE
Camp High Five offers a week-long summer camp experience at Camp Twin Lakes for children living with or affected by HIV. The camp provides various recreational activities, including archery, horseback riding, and swimming, in a supportive environment free from the stigma of HIV. The camp features a two-to-one camper-to-counselor ratio, with volunteer physicians and nurses offering specialized care. Aimed at children aged 6-16, Camp High Five also includes educational sessions on HIV/AIDS and ceremonies to honor loved ones lost to the disease, providing emotional support and fun for children who often face significant challenges in their daily lives. The camp is free for all attendees.
