Philanthropists

Philanthropists are the backbone of UGA HEROs! Their goal is to not only raise money, but make new friends and interact with all of our HERO children!

What is UGA HEROs?

We are an organization devoted to improving the quality of life for children affected and infected with HIV/AIDS in the State of Georgia. UGA HEROs rallies students across campus in a year-long fundraiser that culminates in a grand finale at the HERO Olympics–an event for these children and UGA students. UGA HEROs works closely with the UGA football team, Athletic Association, and both Head Football Coach Mark Richt and Georgia Legend Vince Dooley (who are both H.E.R.O. Board members) to help rally students and raise more money for children with HIV/AIDS in Georgia.

How do I get involved?

Registration for Fall 2012 is OPEN! If you are interested in getting involved then sign up here. Freshman council is a group of philanthropists that have ‘that extra something.’ Learn more about Freshman Council here >

What is a philanthropist? What impact will I be making?

Philanthropists are the cornerstone of our organization. Each and every member of HERO is vital and you will be making a huge difference in our cause. You will be placed on a team with either your Greek organization, Residence Hall or fellow Upperclassmen. Together you will all raise money and make new friends from all over the UGA campus! You will also have the opportunity to meet the HERO children and be a part of our major event in December, the HERO Olympics! As a philanthropist YOU will be helping improve the lives of children who need your help and your voice.

What are some of the important dates for the Fall semester?

Go to our Upcoming Events page to see more of our important dates.

Why is there a $20 registration fee?

Every HERO philanthropist pays a $20 registration fee when signing up. This fee covers the cost of the HERO t-shirt and fundraising materials you will receive at the HERO Kick-Off and during your team meetings. This $20 also goes directly to your fundraising goal!

What are the expectations of a HERO Philanthropist?

Pledge to raise $150 for the UGA HEROs cause (so easy with the help of your team and team leader!).

Meet with your HERO team or the whole organization a couple times a month (each philanthropist has a Team Leader to help guide you throughout the fall).

Stay in contact with your Team Leader and let him/her know when you can’t make it to their meetings and find out what you missed.

Have fun meeting new people, going to special events, and helping HERO children!

When you meet your $150 goal, you will be invited to attend the HERO Olympics (voted Best Campus Event) and spend the day with over 150 HERO children that you’ve helped.

The HERO Olympics: December 1st, 2012!
