Committee Members

2012 UGA HEROs Committee Application

Committee members are the face of UGA HEROs. They have a unique opportunity to become even more involved with raising money for kids in Georgia affected by HIV/AIDS.

Committee members join one of thirteen committees with people who have similar interests. As a group with an Executive Council leader, they coordinate multiple fundraising events throughout the year, promote our cause around campus and help to recruit philanthropists for the Fall semester.

2012 UGA HEROs Committee Applications are due Monday February 13th!

External Affairs Family

Corporate Relations: Meeting Time: Wednesday 7:30pm-8:30pm
The goal of the Corporate Relations committee is to create and maintain relationships with businesses and corporations in NE Georgia. We will utilize these contacts for guidance, to obtain sponsorships, and to tap new resources. Much of the committee’s focus will lie on securing monetary sponsorships for the HERO Olympics. Corporate Relations will also be responsible for planning and holding HERO’s 2nd Annual Golf Tournament in an attempt to foster involvement from the Athens corporate world. Committee members are expected to visit businesses on a regular basis and should represent HERO in a professional manner. Students who are typically overachievers, business-oriented, hardworking, dependable, and enthusiastic would be a great addition to the Corporate Relations team!

High School Relations: Meeting Time: Wednesday 7:30pm-8:30pm
The High School Relations committee will be responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with local high schools to further expand HERO for Children’s mission and fundraising abilities. We wish to utilize local high schools to increase AIDS awareness and financial support for HERO in and around Athens. The committee should be composed of dedicated, energetic, and caring individuals who wish to better the world around them through the creation of mini HERO organizations within the high schools and through competitive committee fundraising.

Events Family

Child Relations: Meeting Time: Tuesday 6:30pm-7:30pm
Child Relations will focus on raising awareness and educating committees about child-related issues with HIV so all of UGA HEROs is familiar with this issue, HERO’s cause, and HERO’s kids! We will be planning an event in Atlanta in the spring that will involve all of UGA HEROs’ members and the HERO kids. Committee members should be enthusiastic, positive, diligent, creative, and 110% committed to the kids, which requires driving the kids from Atlanta to the HERO Olympics, and developing a pen-pal program, as well as raising an extensive amount of money!**
**Note that Child Relations has no more interaction with the children than will other committees**

HERO Events: Meeting Time: Tuesday 6:30pm-7:30pm
HERO Events is responsible for planning, organizing, promoting, and staffing two major events for HERO: one new event in the spring as well as the HERO Olympics in the fall, which has been ranked the “Best Campus Event” for 2005 and 2007. People in this committee should be hard-working, creative, and committed to making UGA HEROs’ major events the most memorable and exciting events on campus! We will work closely with the Special Events Committee and the Child Relations Committee to keep up the awareness, the enthusiasm, and the WOW factor that defines UGA HEROs!

Special Events: Meeting Time: Tuesday 6:30pm-7:30pm
The Special Events Committee is responsible for planning and implementing new and innovative ideas that should achieve two goals: to rally the UGA campus and Athens community together around our cause to raise a ridiculous amount of money for these kids, and to raise awareness for UGA HEROs and the impact of HIV/AIDS on Georgia children. Special Events is fully responsible for organizing the Date Auction and Road Rules along with other events envisioned by this amazingly creative, organized and diligent group of HEROs!

Internal Affairs Family

PR/ Marketing: Meeting Time: Wednesday 7:30-8:30pm
The purpose of UGA HEROs’ Public Relations Committee is to creatively and enthusiastically promote UGA HEROs as an organization and to support fundraising events. We will look for new, interesting ways to boost the positive image of this organization while having fun at the same time! Activities include on-site promotions, public relations campaigns, marketing, advertising, and working with the local media and press, as well as fundraising. The committee members should be extremely motivated and enthusiastic about HERO and be able to show those qualities to the public through writing and taking action. Committee members should be upbeat, positive, outgoing, extroverted, and enjoy working with people.

WOW: Meeting Time: Tuesday 5:30pm-6:30pm
As the largest committee, WOW should represent the brand and the face of UGA HEROs. “If it’s not WOW, it’s not worth doing!” is a slogan at the backbone of HERO, and the WOW committee is dedicated to upholding this standard in all aspects of the organization. We keep it WOW by planning and running fun and informative monthly HERO meetings, organizing socials for HERO members, and making sure morale is always high at all HERO events. Since our committee will be composed of the most fabulously WOW students on campus, we intend to have the most fun while raising the most money through many small WOW fundraisers organized by committee members.

Media/Website: Meeting Time:
This special-interest committee is perfect for someone who has experience with filming, video editing, photography, or web-design. This committee will be working to create a video archive of HERO activity throughout 2009. Committee members will brainstorm new video projects, help film and produce short videos that promote and celebrate big events, and help maintain the website. Media and Web committee members will work closely with the Promotions/Marketing and WOW Committees. The goal of this committee is to utilize new technology in order to reach out to UGA HEROs’ members, to help recruit hundreds of philanthropists in the fall, and to inspire and raise awareness around our cause.
