It was a beautiful day on the golf course at the Georgia Club last Sunday (March 25)
when 12 teams came out to enjoy the day with UGA HEROs! Teams consisted of 4
people each but before the game started, the players were given coffee, donuts, bagels
and fruit so that they would be well nourished for the upcoming day. Registration ended
at 10 am and after the tournament officially began, the players were brought lunch from
the Varsity. They were given the opportunity to buy mulligans, and there were various
opportunities for the players to participate in competitions. On all the par three...

During Road Rules, another team leader and I took some of our freshman girls to Earth Fare to can. After about two hours of receiving pocket change, an elderly man walked out of the door that I was staking out. I asked, with the biggest smile on my face, if he would like to donate money to UGA HEROs. Like any responsible man, he inquired about the organization that he was going to give his loose coins to. When I told him that we were a non-profit organization dedicated in bettering the quality of life of children affected with HIV/AIDS. Immediately he starting tearing up and took another step towards...

A few weeks ago, our organization had the pleasure of visiting Athens Corn Maze with 25 of our HERO kids. The kids were from both the Atlanta and Athens area. The children, who do not get to act like kids very often, loved the whole exciting fall outdoor atmosphere the corn maze had to offer. Our HERO members had the opportunity to interact with the children they raise money for by braving through the maze, riding hayrides, petting animals at the petting zoo, and decorating pumpkins. During the event, I had the opportunity to walk around and watch all the kids and members enjoying the beautiful...

So, we just wanted to share our experience with the UGA HEROs love offering donation. The past 2 years we've visited our home church, specifically the adult Sunday school classes. All we did was tell about HERO, why we're involved, and what HERO money does for these children. We had an amazing response. Both times we visited about 5 classes (for a total of 2 hours!) and raised over $900 each time!!! This meant a lot to the church and to us as well. You'd be surprised at how willing adults are to donate to a good cause, especially retired adults ;). For us, it worked having two people, but if you feel...

Everyone knows it’s easy to make little kids under the age of 10 adore you. All you have to do is be a good three to four feet taller than them and they already think you’re cooler than Santa Claus, Justin Bieber, and all the Disney Princess put together. It’s when kids are at that awkward in between stage (i.e. middle school) when all they’re desperately trying to do is be cool that you have to work a little more magic to get them on your side.
I got to Stone Mountain on Sunday for the HEROs spring outing with the kids, picked up my shirt and paired it with my lovely hot pink and black...
