Reed named UGA HEROs Committee Member of the Week

Athens, Georgia – November 3, 2011 – Jessica Reed, a junior Public Relations and English double-major at the University of Georgia and Cass High School alumna, has been named the UGA HEROs Committee Member of the Week for the week of October 31 through November 4, 2011. She is a member of the Campus Development Committee led by Bennett Travers. “Jessica is one of the most consistent and hard working people I know in HERO. She not only attends every meeting and steps up to take responsibility, but she planned an entire event geared towards incoming freshmen this past summer by herself and continues to work hard for our committee,” said Travers. Jessica is the daughter of Ed and Carrie Reed of Cartersville.
Reed joined UGA HEROs in September 2009 as a member of Freshman Council and then became a Philanthropist Team Leader, a Freshman Council Co-Leader, and member of the Campus Relations Committee after going through competitive application and interview processes. She said she joined HERO because “I have always been passionate about HIV/AIDS awareness and was looking for a way to get more involved with it in college. After hearing about UGA HEROs at my freshman orientation, I knew I had to join!” Reed, along with her committee, is currently planning the annual UGA HEROs 5K on Tuesday, November 8 at 3:00 PM at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia located in Athens. More information on this event can be found on the UGA HEROs website at www.ugaheros.org.
UGA HEROs strives to improve the quality of life for the 12,000 children in Georgia infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS by raising money to support the programs offered by H.E.R.O. (Hearts Everywhere Reaching Out) for Children, Inc. With over 2,500 student members, it is the largest philanthropy at the University of Georgia. Since it was founded in 2003, UGA HEROs has raised over $1.5 million. UGA HEROs works closely with the UGA football team, Athletic Association, and both Head Football Coach Mark Richt and Georgia Legend Vince Dooley (who are both H.E.R.O. Board members) to help rally students and raise money for children with HIV/AIDS in Georgia.
